Giving Thanks for the Diploma – Te Deum Thanksgiving Mass in Honor of Graduating Students

Today

On 3 July 2026, graduating students of Pharmacy, Biotechnology, and Dentistry at the University of Pécs gathered in the Pécs Cathedral for a solemn Te Deum Thanksgiving Mass to express their gratitude for their years at the University, the successful completion of their final examinations, and the degrees they had earned.

In keeping with tradition, this year's Thanksgiving Mass once again served as a fitting prelude to the graduation ceremony. The event was organized with the dedicated support of Dr. Klára Mayer, Honorary Associate Professor, whose commitment has helped make this special occasion possible year after year. At the beginning of the ceremony, Dr. András Fittler, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, welcomed the graduating students.

The principal celebrant of the Mass was Fr. Tamás Gergely Forrai, S.J., Jesuit priest and University chaplain. In his homily, inspired by the message of the Te Deum, he spoke about the importance of gratitude, emphasizing that thankfulness also plays a significant role in maintaining mental well-being. He highlighted that at the conclusion of such a long and demanding period as university studies and final examinations, it is especially important to pause, reflect on the challenges and achievements of the past years, and give thanks for all that has been accomplished.

In recognition of the large number of German dentistry students attending the ceremony, this year's Te Deum hymn—the ancient and well-known Christian hymn of thanksgiving that gives the Mass its name—was sung in German. During the service, the graduating students also received a personal blessing.

The Thanksgiving Mass marked a meaningful conclusion to the graduates' university years while also providing spiritual encouragement as they embark on the next chapter of their lives as qualified professionals in their chosen fields.
